Lewis Brisbois has brought on experienced transportation law attorney Katherine L. Vaughn as a partner in its Denver office. Ms. Vaughn is an experienced litigation attorney who regularly represents clients in transportation, general liability, and insurance related disputes. Vaughn joins the firm from Hall & Evans, LLC in Denver.
In her transportation practice, Ms. Vaughn represents motor carriers and their insurers in cargo, property, and personal injury claims, both large and small. She has particular experience handling high profile, media-sensitive wrongful death claims, and regularly litigates in state and federal courts both regionally and nationally. In her most recent jury trial, she obtained a complete defense verdict on behalf of an international fast food chain. Beyond her transportation practice, Ms. Vaughn defends business owners, premises owners, and their insurers against a wide array of personal injury claims.
“Katherine brings a wealth of experience and talent to not only our Transportation group, but our firm as a whole,” said Pittsburgh Managing Partner Todd A. Gray, who is vice chair of the firm’s Transportation Practice. “We are excited to watch her work.”
Ms. Vaughn also joins Lewis Brisbois’ 24/7 Rapid Response Transportation Team, to which she brings exceptional regional experience, having coordinated rapid response accident investigations in Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana. She frequently responds to accident scenes and works with experts in the fields of human factors, biodynamics, and accident reconstruction. She also recently served as the national coordinating counsel for a mock FMCSA compliance audit on behalf of one of the country’s top five largest private motor carrier fleets.
“We are thrilled to have Katherine joining the Denver office,” said Denver Managing Partner Todd R. Seelman. “Her regional experience will enable us to greatly expand the firm’s footprint in the Mountain States.”
“Lewis Brisbois’ Transportation Practice, in particular their 24/7 Rapid Response Team, has an outstanding national reputation and I’m excited to be a part of it,” said Ms. Vaughn.
In addition to her jury trial experience, Ms. Vaughn represents clients in arbitration, mediation, and pre-suit negotiations. She has successfully briefed and argued numerous dispositive motions in state and federal court.
Ms. Vaughn received her Bachelor of Science, magna cum laude, from Oklahoma State University and her Juris Doctor from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. She is licensed to practice law in Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, and Oklahoma.
