Attorney John Dakmak has joined Clark Hill PLC Detroit as a Senior Attorney in the Litigation Practice Group. Dakmak focuses his litigation practice in the areas of white collar criminal defense, administrative law, and business litigation.
Prior to joining Clark Hill, Dakmak, for more than 10 years, was a prosecutor with the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office and the Michigan Department of Attorney General. As a prosecutor, he handled complex criminal litigation matters such as cold-case homicide, narcotics trafficking, tax evasion, criminal enterprise, political corruption, and fraud prosecutions. Dakmak worked with many members of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies in several inter-jurisdictional task forces ranging in scope from violent crime reduction initiatives to the investigation and prosecution of white collar criminal enterprises. He also served as the Director of Legislative Affairs for the Michigan Attorney General giving him in-depth exposure to the Michigan Legislature and Governor’s Office.
Since leaving the Michigan Department of Attorney General in 2009, Dakmak has focused his practice on defending those accused of criminal offenses and representing parties in civil litigation. He has first-chaired more than 250 trials to verdict. When it comes to criminal defense, Dakmak has represented clients in state and federal courts beginning with the investigative process through trial and post-trial relief.
Dakmak is a board member of the Detroit Athletic Club Foundation, a philanthropic organization dedicated to the promotion of academic and athletic scholarship and community leadership in Michigan, a 2008 Fellow of the Michigan State University Michigan Political Leadership Program, a board member of the Michigan Federalist Society, and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He earned his B.S. from the University of Detroit and his J.D. from Michigan State University College of Law.
