Shanna M. Kaminski has joined Varnum’s Detroit office where she is a member of both the Litigation and Trial Team and the Banking, Finance and Restructuring Team.
Kaminski focuses on bankruptcy-related litigation, defending individuals and businesses in adversary proceedings brought against them in bankruptcy courts throughout the country, as well as on business litigation where she represents businesses and individuals in complex business disputes including shareholder and partnership disputes, breach of contract disputes, supply chain disputes and business torts.
Kaminski also has extensive experience representing diverse creditors in all aspects of bankruptcy, probate, receivership and debt collection matters. In addition, she has defended Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) claims, consumer protection act claims, usury claims and lender liability claims. Her previous experience includes representing the City of Detroit Water and Sewerage Department in the city’s historic Chapter 9 bankruptcy case.
Prior to entering private practice, Kaminski served in the Office of the Grundy County (Illinois) State’s Attorney in the Civil and Criminal Divisions, and as a law clerk for the Honorable Lance R. Peterson of the Grundy County Circuit Court. She joins the firm from Schafer and Weiner, PLLC.
Kaminski is a graduate of Valparaiso University School of Law and received her undergraduate degree from Eastern Michigan University. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Consumer Bankruptcy Association, is the vice chair of the Debtor/Creditor Rights Committee of the Oakland County Bar Association and is an executive vice president for the International Women’s Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation. She is a member of the Italian American Bar Association, Oakland County Bar Association, Detroit Bar Association, Turnaround Management Association and American Bankruptcy Institute.
Within the broader community, Kaminski serves as an ambassador for the Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce, serves as the recording secretary and development director for the Dante Alighieri Society of Michigan, and as a volunteer with Eastern Michigan University mock trial and moot court teams. She is also actively involved with several arts and historic organizations in the Detroit area.
