Wragge & Co Appoints New Head of Projects in the UAE

Wragge & Co has appointed Gurmeet Kaur as its new head of projects in the United Arab Emirates. The move, which sees the former DLA Piper partner join Wragge & Co Legal Consultants LLC, follows the firm’s launch of a Dubai office in September.

Mohamed Al Mehairi, senior partner and chairman of Wragge & Co Legal Consultants LLC, said: “Gurmeet is an exceptional lawyer with a first-class track record of advising on large, complex projects in the UAE. Technically excellent and focused on building strong, commercial relationships, Gurmeet is an important addition to the Wragge & Co single team.”

Originally from Malaysia, Gurmeet Kaur worked in Australia for more than 10 years at Mallesons Stephen Jacques and Allens Arthur Robinson, before joining DLA Piper in Dubai in 2007. She became a partner in 2008. A projects specialist, Gurmeet Kaur advises public and private sector clients on water, waste, energy, transport and construction projects.

Her credentials include a lead role on the Dubai Road and Transport Authority’s first public-private-partnership project in the marine transport sector. She advised a port development authority in relation to the procurement, development and financing of a wastewater concession for Dubai Maritime City. Gurmeet Kaur also acted for a government-related company in relation to a cargo-handling concession at Abu Dhabi airport.

Gurmeet Kaur said: “Opening two offices in less than a year shows Wragge & Co’s commitment both to the UAE and to building a top-tier international projects practice. With a deep understanding of local culture and local law – our unique east meets west message – plus innovative and commercial thinking, we can help international clients to take advantage of the opportunities on offer in this region.”

Gurmeet Kaur is part of Wragge & Co’s international projects practice, a cross-firm team comprising experts in structuring and delivering high-profile projects across the world. Highlights include advising on the privatisation of Kenya and Uganda’s railways, project finance deals in Egypt and Croatia, strategic health projects in the UAE and ground-breaking work for the UK Ministry of Defence.
