Kennedys Strengthens Global Insurance and Disputes Practice With Partner Hire in Dubai

We are pleased to announce that we have strengthened our insurance and disputes practice with the hire of partner Jamie Kellick to our Dubai office from Addleshaw Goddard.

This follows the recent hire of international arbitration partner, Celine Abi Habib Kanakri into our Dubai office from Baker McKenzie Habib Al Mulla which bolstered our international arbitration capabilities.

Qualified in England & Wales, and having practiced in the United Arab Emirates and the Sultanate of Oman for the last eleven years, Jamie specialises in construction (contentious and non-contentious) and commercial dispute resolution. His work encompasses the whole of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), with a focus on UAE and Oman, in both of which jurisdictions he is recognised as a foreign expert, and a leading individual in dispute resolution, by Chambers & Partners Global and The Legal 500 respectively. Jamie has also been listed in “Who’s Who” for construction law in both countries since 2015.

Jamie’s construction clients include international engineering and construction contractors operating through local entities/joint ventures, and international joint venture project companies. His commercial clients are both local and international, as well as foreign investors entering the region. He has also advised government entities.

Nick Thomas, senior partner at Kennedys, says: “The arrival of Jamie, coming so soon after Celine’s appointment, will enable us to fast-track our plans for expansion across the Middle East. His experience is a natural fit with Kennedys and will greatly benefit our global insurer clients.”

Peter Ellingham, partner and head of the Dubai office at Kennedys, says: “I am delighted to welcome Jamie to the Dubai office. His practice area fits our core specialisms, bringing a strong focus on the construction, energy and utilities sectors in the Arabian Peninsula and across the GCC. Jamie also brings unrivalled arbitration experience and contractual advice, allowing us to provide a more comprehensive offering to our clients both domestically and internationally.”

Jamie Kellick says: “Kennedys has a great reputation across the region and globally. I feel my practice is a natural fit with the firm and will perfectly complement Celine’s already growing practice. I am feeling energised by joining Kennedys and the prospect of expanding our work from the Emirates to the Sultanate and throughout the GCC.”

In June we reported record turnover of £217m for the financial year 2017/18, representing a 12% increase on the previous financial year (£193m) and is the first time our revenue has topped £200m. The growth was supported by a 7% increase in the number of fee-earners worldwide, with our total headcount exceeding 2,000 for the first time in our history.

This continued growth has led to the appointment of Suzanne Liversidge as our first ever global managing partner, which was announced last month.

Our Dubai office was established in 2006 and focuses on insurance, dispute resolution, arbitration, construction, aviation and transport.
