Dentons Expands Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice with Hire of Thomas Nebel in Dusseldorf

Dusseldorf-Global law firm Dentons has strengthened its Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice in Germany with the recruitment of Dr. Thomas Nebel, who joins the Dusseldorf office as a partner. This is the second lateral hire for disputes in Dusseldorf within just a few months. He joins from Herbert Smith Freehills in Dusseldorf.

Thomas Nebel is an experienced litigator, who represents national and international companies and their executives, as well as private individuals in both in- and out-of-court disputes. He brings deep experience in corporate, insolvency, and construction disputes. Alongside litigation, Thomas Nebel focuses on non-contentious matters related to the planning and implementation of major projects in the energy, infrastructure and plant construction sectors.

“Thomas is an excellent lawyer, who will not only expand our capacity in litigation but will also create synergies with our strong Restructuring, Insolvency and Bankruptcy practice and our Engineering and Infrastructure group,” explained Amy Kläsener, Head of the Dispute Resolution team in Germany.

Dentons laid the foundation for its Dusseldorf-based Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice in October last year with the hire of counsel Dr. Matthias Hadding. With this latest addition, the German disputes team has grown to 17 lawyers, including five partners.

Andreas Ziegenhagen, Germany Managing Partner, said: “Due to its relevance for clients in every sector, advice in conflict resolution is of central importance to our Firm. We are strategically investing in this area to address the increasing demand from our clients.”

“Dentons continues to attract fantastic talent due to our global positioning, strong connections to the local community, and the exciting opportunity to shape a growing office,” said Andreas Haak, Dusseldorf Managing Partner. “Thomas’ recruitment is an important step in our strategy to become a leading competitor in the Rhine-Ruhr region.”

In less than a year since the opening of the Dusseldorf office, Dentons has recruited eleven partners, who advise on antitrust and regulation, corporate law, M&A, banking and finance, compliance, employment, real estate, tax, as well as litigation. In 2020, the office aims to grow its capabilities in IT, IP, Corporate, Public Law, and Energy.
