International law firm McDermott Will & Emery welcomes Dr. Maximilian (Max) Uibeleisen and Dr. Benedikt von Schorlemer as partners in its Transaction Practice Group in Frankfurt. Both bring extensive knowledge of the energy and infrastructure spaces, having previously advised on project development and finance, mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and corporate reorganization for strategics and private equity funds and their portfolio companies. The duo arrive from Ashurst in Frankfurt.
“We are committed to expanding our project finance, energy and infrastructure capabilities and the arrival of Max and Benedikt in Germany – Europe’s biggest economy – is a fantastic boost for the Firm,” said Harris Siskind, global head of McDermott’s Transactions Practice Group. “There are significant opportunities to service deal and regulatory mandates for energy and private funds in Germany and across our international network with Max and Benedikt’s practices.”
Max, who led Ashurst’s German energy transition practice, has been advising companies on transactions and project developments within the energy and infrastructure sectors for more than 15 years, with a key focus on renewable energy. He also advises on a variety of topics related to the energy transition, such as green hydrogen, battery storage and power purchase agreements. In addition to the energy industry, Max supports companies and investors in other infrastructure sectors, such as the transport sector, and has several years of experience in environmental law projects involving chemical parks and tank farms.
Benedikt has extensive experience in M&A and private equity. He advises companies and financial investors on domestic and cross-border M&A transactions and joint ventures, corporate law issues and management investments. For many years now, he has focused on advising clients in the energy and infrastructure sectors. Additionally, Benedikt has advised on several transactions within the chemical and medical technology sectors.
“Energy transition and infrastructure are major issues for the German economy. There is hardly any other area in which companies face as many challenges as in those two,” said Dr. Jens Ortmanns, managing partner of McDermott’s Germany offices. “We are extremely excited to strengthen our established transaction practice with Max and Benedikt. Their industry knowledge is an ideal addition to our German and international teams.”
“McDermott has a market-leading global energy group, a great brand and an international platform. We are looking forward to building on this with our new colleagues in Frankfurt, Düsseldorf and Munich and to supporting clients on domestic and international energy projects,” said Max and Benedikt.
In recent months, McDermott has boosted its German Transactions Group with a series of lateral hires. The group has 35 partners and 52 other lawyers with a focus on corporate/M&A, private equity and finance in Frankfurt, Munich, Düsseldorf and Cologne.
