Leading international law firm Clifford Chance is strengthening its capital markets team with the hire of Sullivan & Cromwell lawyer Philipp Klöckner, who will join the partnership in May 2019. Philipp will work alongside the team’s well-respected US partner, George Hacket in Frankfurt, in an expansion of the firm’s regional Equity Capital Markets (ECM) practice.
Philipp Klöckner (37) started his legal career in the Frankfurt office of Sullivan & Cromwell. He has extensive experience in advising on ECM transactions such as IPOs, capital increases, accelerated placement procedures, and public takeovers. In addition, he brings many years of experience in advising on the full range of post-admission obligations, the establishment of capital market compliance systems, and also corporate law and corporate governance.
George Hacket, Equity Capital Markets partner said: “With Philipp’s extensive experience advising on prominent ECM transactions, we are further deepening our high-calibre corporate advisory services for clients, particularly where M&A, real estate and private equity overlap, for example in the structuring of dual track procedures for company or portfolio sales. Following on from our hire of Markus Stephanblome a year ago, our team is in an even stronger position to advise the firm’s global clients on their most critical and complex work.”
Peter Dieners, Germany Managing Partner continues: “I look forward to working with Philipp as we continue to advance our strategy here in Germany, delivering the best ECM and corporate advice to our clients across critical global business centres.”
Adrian Cartwright, Capital Markets Global Practice Area Leader adds: “With Philipp’s hire we are reinforcing our ability to deliver the very best ECM advice and support in Germany as well as underpinning our strong cross-border capabilities. We are delighted to have him on board.”
Philipp Klöckner’s addition to the Clifford Chance team exemplifies the firm’s sustained investment in its capital markets, equity capital markets and corporate M&A practices. As part of the firm’s global practice, the 15-strong German capital markets team with lawyers licensed in German and US law, advises on IPOs, straight and structured debt issuance, funds transactions and corporate governance law issues. The German practice is also supplemented by a large team of M&A, private equity, banking, corporate, tax and real estate lawyers across the firm’s offices in Frankfurt, Düsseldorf and Munich, as well as across its international network.
With the arrival of Philipp Klöckner Clifford Chance continues its strategic expansion drive in Germany. Over recent months, the firm has also added Michael Dietrich (Antitrust/Competition), Steffen Schellschmidt (Banking & Finance), Moritz Keller (Arbitration/Litigation), Thomas Voland (Public Law/Regulatory) and Markus Stephanblome (Corporate M&A) as partners in the firm’s German and global practices.
