Global law firm White & Case LLP is expanding its Global White Collar Practice with the addition in Frankfurt of Daniel Zapf as a partner. Daniel joins White & Case from DLA Piper, where he worked in Frankfurt and Washington, DC.
“White collar is of strategic importance to the Firm globally as a practice that remains in high demand during periods of economic growth as well as times of economic uncertainty,” said White & Case partner Scott Hershman, Head of the Global White Collar Practice. “We already have strong on-the-ground white collar capabilities in Germany, Paris, London and the US and the addition of Daniel will further strengthen the practice in a key jurisdiction. Joining our white collar team in Frankfurt, Daniel will work closely with colleagues across our global network to advise our clients on international compliance and cross-border investigations.”
Daniel advises on all aspects of white collar crime and tax offences, representing and defending national and international companies and individuals subject to investigations and proceedings involving supervisory authorities and the courts. In addition, he coordinates and conducts corporate internal investigations and advises on compliance issues, including the review of compliance management systems, the implementation of anti-money laundering compliance systems and the participation in compliance due-diligence processes. For nearly a decade, Zapf collaborated closely with Juergen Taschke, a leading white collar crime and compliance lawyer in Germany.
“Daniel is a trusted adviser to his clients, advising them on the full remit of white collar issues and compliance,” said White & Case partner Markus Langen, Regional Section Head, EMEA Disputes. “This addition signals to the German market, particularly the financial industry that has its focus in Germany in Frankfurt, that we have the bandwidth and experience to advise them on all their white collar and compliance matters.”
Partner Oliver Brettle, a member of White & Case’s global Executive Committee, said: “White collar, internal investigations and compliance are all areas in which clients benefit from seamless international cooperation and specific industry experience. In Germany, White & Case’s unique, fully integrated platform enables our lawyers to operate on a pan-Germany basis, from which they are best positioned to advise the Firm’s global clients on international matters. The addition of Daniel will not only strengthen our Global White Collar Practice in EMEA, but also a number of our industry focuses, particularly global financial institutions. His arrival follows the promotion to partner of nine lawyers in Germany at the start of 2022.”
