The global law firm Jones Day has announced that Dr. Klaus Herkenroth has joined as a partner in the Tax Practice, resident in the Firm’s Frankfurt Office. Dr. Herkenroth comes to Jones Day from Ashurst LLP, where he led the German tax practice for more than 15 years. With more than 25 years of experience, he is a proven practitioner and one of the leading tax lawyers in Germany.
Over the past three years, Jones Day’s German practice has grown significantly, mainly in the areas of Banking & Finance, M&A, and Real Estate, creating an increased need for sophisticated tax advice. The addition of one of Germany’s most respected transactional tax lawyers is a logical consequence of that rapid growth.
Dr. Herkenroth has advised international companies and investors on a variety of transactions, including, among others, Owens & Minor on the acquisition of the Movianto group from Celesio, Samsung SRA on the purchase of various large German real estate properties, Castelake on the purchase of a large German real estate portfolio, and Cinven and ICG on various transactions, as well as on fund structuring. He has been recognized as a leading lawyer in the current editions of Chambers Global, Chambers Europe, and The Legal 500.
“We are pleased to have recruited one of Germany’s most renowned tax lawyers,” said Ansgar Rempp, Partner-in-Charge of Jones Day Germany. “Klaus’s transactional tax practice, as well as his qualities as a team player, will fit in perfectly with us.”
“Klaus is a great addition to our team,” said Ray Wiacek, leader of the Firm’s global Tax Practice. “His extensive experience advising on the tax aspects of M&A, restructurings, derivatives and securitizations, fund formations, and the structuring of real estate investments will prove extremely valuable to clients in Germany and around the world.”
“Jones Day is among the firms of choice for high profile laterals in Germany,” said Sandra Kamper, Partner-in-Charge of the Frankfurt Office. “We are delighted to welcome Klaus to our Frankfurt team.”
“Jones Day’s successful transactional practice in Germany derives from the Firm’s clear commitment to the German market,” said Dr. Herkenroth. “I look forward to making a contribution to the Firm’s continued success.”
Dr. Herkenroth, a Certified Tax Advisor, received his doctorate from the Universities of Hannover and Giessen and his LL.M from the University of Michigan (LL.M. 1986).
