K&L Gates Strengthens Real Estate Practice with Addition of Nine-Lawyer Team Across Munich and Frankfurt Offices

Global law firm K&L Gates LLP has strengthened its real estate practice with the addition of nine lawyers to the firm’s Munich and Frankfurt offices. Led by Munich partners Philipp Turnwald and Dr. Nicolas Mähner, the team joins K&L Gates from Eversheds Sutherland and also includes counsels Jennifer Hock, Dominik Sailer, and Dr. Andrew Stanka and associates Patrick Glück and Laura Mayr in Munich, as well as counsel Julian-Claudius Götz and senior associate Stefan Koch in Frankfurt.

The well-coordinated team of Turnwald and Mähner has been active in the field of real estate business law for more than 15 years, with both partners regarded as leading lawyers in the corporate real estate, logistics, and retail areas. Their clients have included globally active companies, investors, project developers, and real estate funds, as well as international fashion labels.

The new team strengthens an already well-established K&L Gates real estate practice group in Berlin, which provides cross-border advice to internationally active investors, asset managers, and family offices.

Turnwald, who expects a considerable demand for advice in the real estate sector in the coming years, commented: “With our local additions to the Munich and Frankfurt markets, we will optimally complement and expand the practice group, which will then comprise a total of 25 lawyers. We are looking forward to a brilliant start at K&L Gates!”

Dr. Rüdiger von Hülst, Managing Partner of K&L Gates in Germany, stated: “With the additions of Philipp, Nicolas, and their team, we are ideally positioned to advise logistics companies, project developers, and companies in the corporate real estate sector, while also helping K&L Gates to establish a stronger presence in the important markets of Munich and Frankfurt with 25 real estate professionals now across Germany.”

“We are delighted to welcome Philipp, Nicolas, and their team to complement our busy and growing German real estate capability and to further strengthen our pan-European offering in all aspects of corporate real estate,” said Wayne Smith, a leader of K&L Gates’ global real estate practice area.

Turnwald and Mähner are among more than 80 new partners and of counsel who have joined K&L Gates since the beginning of 2020. In addition to fellow real estate partner Denis Charles (Paris) in May, this group also has included lawyers in the firm’s corporate; health care; tax; commercial litigation; energy, infrastructure and resources; environment, land and natural resources; asset management and investment funds; banking and asset finance; labor and employment; IP procurement and portfolio management; IP litigation; technology transactions; real estate; government contracts; and investigations, enforcement and white collar practices.
