Latham & Watkins LLP1 is pleased to announce that Tim Wybitul will join the Frankfurt office as a partner in the Litigation & Trial Department and member of the Data Privacy & Security Practice. Wybitul’s practice focuses on advising domestic and multinational clients on a variety of complex data privacy and employment law matters, with a particular focus on GDPR compliance, employee data privacy, internal investigations, and data protection litigation and regulatory proceedings.
Wybitul also has extensive experience advising clients on the implementation, review, and operation of internal data privacy systems, compliance structures, cross-border data transfers, and discoveries, and he regularly represents companies in connection with legal proceedings on data protection issues and the negotiation with data protection authorities.
“Data privacy and security are top boardroom issues for all companies, financial institutions, and private equity firms with significant operations in Europe and globally,” said Oliver Felsenstein, Managing Partner of Latham & Watkins in Germany. “Tim is a highly regarded practitioner, with vast experience advising clients on the full spectrum of privacy law matters, and he will add further depth to our German and European practice.”
“Expanding our data privacy capability is a strategic focus for the firm following the introduction of the General Data Protection Regulation earlier this year,” adds Gail Crawford, head of the firm’s European Data Privacy & Security Practice. “The large potential fines are expected to result in an increase in internal investigations, more complex regulatory proceedings, and litigation. Tim’s deep experience in both contentious and non-contentious matters will be of great value to our German and international clients, particularly as regulators begin to enforce the GDPR locally.”
“The scale of the possible fines for non-compliance with the GDPR has sharpened the focus of companies on data privacy issues,” adds Christoph Baus, Local Department Chair of the Litigation & Trial Department in Germany. “Tim is exactly the lawyer you want on your side when dealing with high stakes regulatory investigations and enforcement matters. He combines a cool temperament with formidable technical expertise and tough negotiation skills. We are excited to welcome him to our growing team.”
Wybitul joins the firm from Hogan Lovells’ Frankfurt office. He graduated from the University of Frankfurt am Main and undertook his Referendariat at the Frankfurt Court of Appeals, passing his Second State Exam in 2002.
