Mayer Brown to Expand Banking Capabilities with Appointment of Bernina Butt in Germany

Mayer Brown today announced that finance lawyer Bernina Butt has joined the firm’s Banking & Finance practice in Frankfurt as a partner. Bernina was previously at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.

Bernina has extensive experience advising financial institutions, private equity houses and corporates on acquisition finance, leveraged finance and the restructuring of syndicated loans. She maintains a highly international practice, having previously worked in other jurisdictions, including London and New York.

“Talented attorneys such as Bernina, with a wealth of experience and excellent track record, fit in well with our development plans for the practice,“ said Dr. Guido Zeppenfeld, the partner-in-charge of Mayer Brown’s German offices. “Bernina’s arrival further strengthens the capabilities of our finance team and attests to the firm’s ongoing investment in Germany. We are delighted to have attracted Bernina to our firm.”

Dr. Martin Heuber, head of the Banking team in Germany, added: “Bernina brings with her diverse expertise gained from advising on a broad range of banking deals and is a great addition to our team. She will play an important role in the continued expansion of our offering for sponsors, debt funds and banks in acquisition finance (with a mid-cap focus), as well as in the area of real estate finance. I am very much looking forward to working with Bernina.”

Bernina Butt added: “Mayer Brown’s full service offering, together with its reputation as a banking powerhouse, were important factors in my decision to join the firm. The synergies between my experience and the breadth of the firm’s well-established global Banking & Finance practice serve as an ideal springboard for further growth.”

The addition of Bernina to Mayer Brown’s Frankfurt office follows the firm’s recent hires of Dr. Ulrich Helm (Litigation) and Dr. Hagen Köckeritz (Employment) as partners.
