Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP announced today that it will open an office in Munich. The new office will join Orrick’s existing German offices in Berlin, Düsseldorf, and Frankfurt.
“Because Munich is the leading market for industrial and technology companies in Germany, and the hub of German’s private equity and venture capital communities, we believe this is yet another important step in our strategic plan to create the world’s leading technology and emerging companies practice,” said Ralph Baxter, Chairman and CEO of Orrick. “Orrick has a unique position in the market in that we not only have one of the top emerging company practices in Silicon Valley, but we also have significant global capabilities that our competitors do not.”
The office will consist of two partners, two of counsel, four associates and two paralegals from Holme Roberts & Owen Germany LLP. Orrick’s newest partners will include Jens Röhrborn and Dr. Jörg Ritter. Jens’ practice focuses on M&A, capital markets, particularly in the technology area. Jörg’s practice focuses on M&A and venture capital and private equity transactions as well as restructuring and tax issues.
“Jens and Jörg are entrepreneurial partners who are focused on high value clients in an important and growing market with an emerging company-focused corporate, investment funds, capital markets and M&A practice, as well as a substantial traditional corporate practice– core areas of Orrick’s global practice,” said Don Keller, the head of the firm’s Corporate and Emerging Companies practices. “They have built a significant practice in a highly competitive market over the past 15 years and have maintained that success despite the recent economic downturn.”
Representing more than 800 emerging companies worldwide, Orrick is dedicated to counseling emerging technology and life sciences companies, as well as the venture capital and investment banking firms that serve them. The firm’s Emerging Companies Group includes members of the founding team of Venture Law Group, a pioneering law firm in the Silicon Valley, and its roots in the emerging companies practice stretch back over 25 years.
“The German emerging company market is making a strong rebound, and this combination with Orrick will allow us to take advantage of the firm’s platform, reputation and strong brand to take our practice to the next level,” said Röhrborn.
