The global law firm Jones Day has announced that corporate partner Dr. Philipp Grzimek will join the Firm’s Frankfurt Office, and the Düsseldorf Office will welcome Intellectual Property Practicepartner Dr. Jakob Guhn. Both Dr. Grzimek (43), who comes to the Firm from Hogan Lovells, and Dr. Guhn (37), who comes to the Firm from Field Fisher Waterhouse, will arrive on May 1. These appointments for Jones Day in Germany follow the arrival of Mergers & Acquisitions partner Dr. Wolfgang Hölters from Orrick, Hölters & Elsing, and the arrivals of Banking & Finance partners Annica Lindegren and Ulf Kreppel from White & Case and Claudia Leyendecker from Luther, along with their teams. In the last 15 months, Jones Day has almost doubled the number of partners in its German offices by adding 18 lateral and up-through-the-ranks lawyers to the partnership.
“The appointments of Dr. Philipp Grzimek and Dr. Jakob Guhn demonstrate our position as one of the most compelling magnets for legal talent in Germany,” said Ansgar Rempp, German Regional Partner-in-Charge. “Philipp and Jakob are skilled, dynamic, team oriented lawyers who will provide great service to our transactional and IP clients and help us grow our business in their respective markets. This is another important step in the systematic expansion of our presence in Germany. We will continue to pursue our strategic goal to become one of the leading corporate law firms in this country, which, because of its leading roles in the EU and in the global economy, is one of the Firm’s highest priorities.”
Dr. Grzimek represents important clients in M&A and private equity, including Merck KGaA, which he advised on the sale of its electrolyte battery business to BASF SE. He also advises on matters of general corporate law, particularly regarding joint venture agreements, corporate restructurings, and current developments in European corporate law. He joined Hogan Lovells in 1999, and became a partner in 2006.
Dr. Guhn advises international clients in trademark, design rights, and unfair competition law issues, particularly in the disputes context. He also has broad experience advising international clients on anti piracy strategies and on marketing campaigns and product roll-outs in the European market. Dr. Guhn has been a partner at Field Fisher since July 2011, when he joined that firm from Bird & Bird.
“I am very pleased to be a part of the dynamic growth of Jones Day in Germany and look forward to working with the Firm’s outstanding M&A and private equity team,” said Dr. Grzimek. “I am delighted to be joining the IP team in Düsseldorf and to participate in the Firm’s collaborative ‘one firm’ culture, which ensures clients around the world receive service of the highest quality on a consistent basis,” said Dr. Guhn.
