Choate today announced that David Currie has rejoined the firm as a partner in its Real Estate Group where he will continue to represent real estate developers and real estate private equity funds in all aspects of acquisition, disposition, financing, leasing and development of real property. Mr. Currie has served as general counsel/chief legal officer for three companies actively involved in commercial real estate matters, most recently as general counsel at The Davis Companies, a fully integrated real estate company where he was responsible for all legal matters. He also has extensive experience counseling real estate private equity funds in the acquisition of office, retail, industrial and multi-family properties.
Prior to The Davis Companies, Mr. Currie was chief legal officer of Whittier Health Network, a privately held business enterprise operating primarily in the real estate, mortgage finance and healthcare fields. Before that, he was senior vice president, general counsel and secretary for CareMatrix Corporation, a publicly traded senior housing developer. Mr. Currie was a member of Choate’s Real Estate Group for five years prior to CareMatrix.
“We are thrilled to have David come back to Choate as a major lateral hire in our nationally recognized Real Estate Group. He brings broad experience in private equity real estate deals – from both sides of the table – and will help us expand our capabilities in this growing area. He will be a great addition to our high-level team and an invaluable asset to our private equity and real estate clients,” said William Gelnaw and John Nadas, co-managing partners at Choate.
Mr. Currie received his JD, cum laude, from Cornell Law School in 1988, where he was senior editor of the Cornell Law Review. He received his BS from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1985.
