Miles & Stockbridge P.C. continues the strategic expansion of its Intellectual Property Practice with the addition of seven lawyers and a patent agent. On August 26th, the firm will welcome Susan McBee, Chester Moore, and David Woodward as principals; Richard Henderson as of counsel; Bryan Jones and David Vanik as counsel; and Shazi Jiang as an associate. All were previously with the Washington, D.C. office of Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC. William Brett Stauffer, a registered patent agent, will also join the firm.
“This group is a tremendous addition to our growing Intellectual Property Practice, particularly in matters related to the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and chemistry fields,” said John B. Frisch, chairman and chief executive officer of Miles & Stockbridge. “Not only are the lawyers experienced in the full spectrum of patent representation, they also deepen our Post-Grant Team and our work involving the new proceedings introduced under the America Invents Act.”
Miles & Stockbridge’s Intellectual Property Practice has grown considerably in 2013. In April, Michael R. Fleming, the former Chief Administrative Patent Judge of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), joined the firm. Six weeks later, the firm announced that four more registered patent attorneys had recently joined the practice: Barry S. Goldsmith, Adam M. Treiber, Troy L. Gwartney, and Keith Mullervy. In July, the firm welcomed Michael A. Messina, another experienced patent lawyer.
“Joining Miles & Stockbridge represents the next logical step in my practice and that of my colleagues,” said McBee, who previously served as chair of Baker Donelson’s Life Sciences Intellectual Property Team in Washington, D.C. “This is a growing group of IP professionals with deep experience in the issues our clients face every day. We look forward to being a part of this impressive team.”
