Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi L.L.P. is pleased to announce that Eric Magnuson has joined the firm’s Minneapolis office as a partner, focusing his practice on business litigation and appellate law.
Mr. Magnuson’s work is concentrated mostly in state and federal appellate courts for the past 30 years. He served as the 21st Chief Justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court from 2008 to 2010. His extensive experience in handling appeals covers a broad range of issues, including the constitutionality of the public school finance system, employment law, trust and probate matters, trade secrets, business contracts, corporate fraud, insurance law and, professional liability.

Mr. Magnuson has handled over 500 appeals in state and federal courts. He writes and edits several federal and state appellate treatises and is currently writing the 4th edition of Federal Appeals: Jurisdiction and Practice for West Group. He has been an associate professor of law at William Mitchell College of Law and the University of St. Thomas School of Law, and teaches at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs. He is a Fellow and Past President of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers, the founding president of the 8th Circuit Bar Association, and served as co-chair of the American Bar Association’s Appellate Practice Committee of the Section on Litigation, and co-chair for the Appellate Advocacy Committee of the Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section. He is also a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America, a trial lawyer honorary society. He has been listed in Chambers USA and is recognized as a “Litigation Star” in Benchmark Litigation: Appellate. In addition, he has been selected continuously by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America.
