Two Employee Benefits Partners Join Thompson Coburn’s Chicago Office

Thompson Coburn has added two partners to its employee benefits practice. Mark S. Weisberg and Linda Lemel Hoseman joined the firm’s 62-attorney Chicago office from Winston & Strawn LLP on Sept. 3.

Weisberg and Hoseman said they made the switch to serve their clients from a more value-driven and client-friendly platform.

“Thompson Coburn is a perfect fit for us,” Weisberg said. “We’re able to provide greater value and be even more proactive in addressing our clients’ needs, all while backed by a nationally recognized and growing full-service law firm.”

As part of its annual Client Service A-Team 2013 survey, BTI Consulting, the country’s leading provider of strategic research to law firms and general counsel, named Thompson Coburn as one of the top 13 firms in the nation at providing exceptional value to clients.

“We are delighted to have Mark and Linda join us,” employee benefits chair Paul G. Griesemer said. “They bring the same employee benefits experience and commitment to client service to our Chicago office that we have provided from St. Louis for many years.”

Weisberg, who received his J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania and is listed in Chambers USA in Band 1 for Employment Benefits & Compensation in Illinois, represents large employers in the design, establishment, and administration of retirement benefit, welfare benefit, and deferred and equity-based compensation plans. He has particular experience negotiating executive employment and equity compensation agreements, as well as advising clients on innovative new benefit programs.

Hoseman, who received her J.D., cum laude, from Tulane University Law School and her LL.M. in tax from New York University School of Law and has served as an adjunct facility instructor at John Marshall Law School, assists clients on a wide variety of employee benefit matters, including the design and administration of qualified retirement benefit plans and welfare benefit plans. She also assists clients with drafting and updating such plans to comply with legislative changes. Additionally, Hoseman has experience handling the ERISA aspects of private equity and other corporate transactions, as well as performing ERISA review of real estate transactions involving plan assets.
