J. Eric Guth Joins Business & Finance Group at Much Shelist

Much Shelist recently announced the addition of J. Eric Guth as a Principal in the firm’s Business & Finance practice group. Guth joined Much Shelist from Barnes & Thornburg, where he was a Partner in the Chicago office.

Guth has extensive experience representing both domestic and international clients, including public and private borrowers, equity sponsors and financial institutions, in a variety of lending transactions, including secured, unsecured and mezzanine debt facilities, securitizations and other structured products.  Guth has advised companies across a wide array of industries, including chemical, energy, finance, packaging, pharmaceuticals and other healthcare products, as well as heavy equipment manufacturing. He regularly negotiates and prepares credit agreements, note purchase agreements, collateral documents, commitment letters and opinions.

In addition, he has significant experience in restructuring and reorganization work involving financial institutions and other companies, ranging from the creation of entirely new capital structures and the restructuring of individual debt facilities, to distressed individual loan sales, loan portfolios and related collateral. As a recognized thought leader in the field, Guth is regularly retained to analyze the structure and tax aspects of potential investments in Asset Backed Commercial Paper conduits; identify weaknesses in existing securitization portfolios; and evaluate potential exposures in collateralized debt obligation portfolios.

Prior to attending law school, Guth served in the U.S. Army as an executive officer, platoon leader, fire direction officer and battalion nuclear weapons and message verification officer. He holds a J.D. (cum laude) from the University of Wisconsin Law School and an A.B from Princeton University.

“We are excited to have Eric join the firm and enhance our depth in a core practice area that is vital to our clients,” said Mitchell S. Roth, Managing Partner. “Our clients and attorneys will benefit from Eric’s background and substantial experience. We also look forward to providing enhanced representation to Eric’s existing client base.”
