BLG is pleased to announce that the Ottawa LRT project was chosen by Project Finance Magazine as the North American Public Private Partnership (PPP) Deal of the Year for 2013.
BLG acted as counsel to the City of Ottawa on this very complex deal with a team that included: Marc Jolicoeur, Morty Gross, Robert Shouldice, Nina Aggarwal, Emma Blanchard, Janet Bradley, Rocco D’Angelo, Vincent DeRose, Sybil Johnson-Abbott, Gus Karantzoulis, Katherine Levitt, Kasim Salim, Mathieu Socqué, Gerry Stobo, Paul Taylor, Jamison Young, Patrice Morin, Daniel Boan, Adam Chamberlain, Rick Coburn, Heather Douglas, Bruce Fowler, Noella Milne, Morton Mitchnick, Pitman Patterson, Andrew Smith, Sharon Vogel, Stephen Waqué, Xue Yan, Doug Copland and Doug Sanders. As this was a three year deal in the making, with a wide variety of matters, many additional BLG colleagues have also contributed to its success.
This transaction is the biggest capital undertaking of its kind for the city, estimated at $2.1 billion. The project involves the construction of a 12.5 km guideway, 10 above-ground stations, three underground stations and a 2.5 km tunnel beneath the downtown core, as well as the widening of Highway 417 and the supply of light rail transit vehicles and the construction of a maintenance and storage facility.
