Pryor Cashman LLP is pleased to announce the addition of Dennis Sughrue to its Real Estate Group where he will strengthen the firm’s already robust transactional capabilities. Sughrue comes to Pryor Cashman from Herrick, Feinstein, where he was a key member of that firm’s real estate practice.
Sughrue focuses his practice on complex real estate transactions, including acquisitions and dispositions, joint ventures, financings (mortgage, mezzanine and construction), and commercial and industrial leasing. He excels in counseling clients on thorny transactions with complex structuring requirements and is very adept in uncovering hidden value in real estate assets.
Sughrue is known in the real estate community for his creative transaction structurings including the “Sale-Condo Back,” in which an owner sells property to a developer who then conveys a piece of the property back in the form of a commercial condominium. His article, “Selling Your Land and Keeping it Too: The Sale Condo-Back” appeared in the September 22, 2011 edition of The New York Law Journal.
“The addition of Dennis to our already dynamic real estate team will continue to strengthen our capabilities in New York, nationally and abroad, and is a key component to our overall growth strategy,” said Ronald H. Shechtman, Pryor Cashman’s Managing Partner. “Dennis is a trusted counselor on some of the most complex real estate transactions and brings an unmatched level of creativity that will be an incredible asset to Pryor Cashman’s clients.”
Sughrue represents a wide range of prominent investors and local owners and developers, including Nonpareil Capital, DDG Partners, Marathon Real Estate Opportunity Fund, Quik Park, and Pantheon Properties.
“I am thrilled to join such a smart and dynamic group which has incredible transaction and litigation capabilities,” said Sughrue. “Pryor Cashman is unencumbered by bureaucracy and is one of the only mid-size firms that truly lives up to its entrepreneurial message. It offers the perfect platform for me to continue developing my practice and is the right place for my clients.”
Several of Sughrue’s recent matters involve development projects in the High Line and Meatpacking Districts, two of the fastest-growing neighborhoods in New York City. His practice also goes beyond New York and extends nationally and overseas. Fluent in French, Sughrue is able to explain esoteric legal concepts to foreign investors and has represented a wide range of European clients.
Sughrue earned his J.D. from New York University School of Law and his B.A., cum laude, from Dartmouth College.
