DLA Piper announced today that Mark Paoletta has joined the Regulatory and Government Affairs and Federal Law and Policy practices as a partner in the Washington, DC, office.
Previously a partner at Dickstein Shapiro LLP, Paoletta focuses his practice on congressional investigations and hearings, where he advises clients on developing strategies and goals, preparing witnesses, drafting testimony, implementing crisis management and conducting internal corporate investigations.
Earlier in his career, Paoletta served for 10 years as Chief Counsel for Oversight and Investigations for the US House Committee on Energy & Commerce. Paoletta also worked in the White House as Assistant Counsel to the President during the George H.W. Bush Administration, where he played a significant role in the confirmation of US Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.
“Having worked in both the public and private sectors, including positions at the White House and on Capitol Hill, Mark has developed a strong reputation as a skilled practitioner in dealing with the House and Senate investigative committees,” said Tom Boyd, co-chair of DLA Piper’s Regulatory and Government Affairs practice. “His experience and leadership will be tremendous assets for our regulated business clients.”
Paoletta’s arrival comes on the heels of the announcement that Thomas deButts joined the firm’s Regulatory and Government Affairs and International Trade practices as a partner in the Washington, DC, office.

In his career on Capitol Hill, Paoletta managed nearly 200 hearings and conducted investigations in the areas of health care; energy and the environment; commerce, trade and consumer protection; telecommunications; corporate accounting practices and oversight; and homeland security and critical infrastructure protection. In private practice, Paoletta has represented numerous companies and individuals before congressional committees in the House and the Senate.
Paoletta is a frequent speaker on issues related to congressional investigations and government oversight and has presented before numerous organizations in the legal, health care, engineering, defense, and drug and medical device industries.
Paoletta earned a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and a B.A., magna cum laude, from Duquesne University.
