Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP served as legal counsel to Emerging Capital Partners (ECP), the first private equity group to raise more than $1.8 billion for investment in companies across the African continent, in its majority-stake investment in Java House Nairobi, Kenya’s leading café and casual dining restaurant operator. This transaction is the first private equity transaction in the restaurant sector in East Africa. ECP’s capital will be used to expand Java House Nairobi’s operations and the number of locations around Kenya and the broader East African region.
Tom Trimble and Jeremy Schwer, partners in Akin Gump’s Washington, D.C., office, lead the legal team advising ECP.
