International law firm Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) today (3 September) announced that it has hired experienced corporate lawyer, Julian Stanier as a partner in its London Corporate Finance team. Julian’s considerable experience will add to the firm’s growing domestic and international transactional capabilities. His appointment follows the arrival of corporate M&A heavyweights, David Barnes and Alan Paul earlier this year and the appointments of Cath Shirley, Lisa O’Neill and Justin Cornelius, which were announced last month.
Julian, who joins BLP from Norton Rose on 5 November, has more than 18 years’ experience in equity capital markets (ECM) and mergers and acquisitions (M&A) transactions. He advises UK and international issuers and investment banks on IPOs and secondary offerings in London and other markets around the world. He also has extensive UK cross-border M&A experience, particularly public takeovers, both hostile and recommended. Julian’s transactional experience covers a range of industries, including financial services, energy, healthcare, technology, gaming, food manufacturing and retail, which complements the broad sector strengths of BLP’s Corporate Finance team.
BLP, a leading legal adviser in the corporate finance mid-market, has experienced a significant increase in the volume and value of higher end, multi-disciplinary transactions following years of focused and sustained investment. The Corporate practice has more than 100 corporate finance and investment funds specialists globally, whose clients include Tesco, Balfour Beatty, Playtech, Church & Dwight and Blackstone. The team recently advised Round Hill Capital on its £415m purchase of Nido student accommodation business from Blackstone and a Gerald Ronson consortium on the acquisition of Total’s UK downstream logistics and marketing operations.
David Collins, Head of Corporate Finance at BLP, said: “Julian will be a valuable addition to the Corporate Finance team. His wealth of transactional experience will reinforce our leading reputation in the corporate mid-market, whilst supporting our on-going efforts to secure greater market share of deals at the higher end. We expect him to play an important role in building our portfolio of clients and referrers of business, particularly with financial institutions.”
Julian said: “I am really looking forward to joining BLP’s growing corporate finance team. The firm’s on-going investment in its corporate practice is impressive, and I welcome the opportunity to work with the team to help realise its ambitious growth plans for high value, international ECM and M&A work.”
