Nixon Peabody Expands China Practice with Addition of Corporate Partner Focused on Cross Border Transactions; Linda Ji Provides Bridge between Boston and China for both U.S. and Chinese Clients

International law firm Nixon Peabody LLP announces the arrival of Global Business & Transactions partner Xueqing Linda Ji to its Boston office. Ms. Ji will play a key role at Nixon Peabody, given her broad experience in cross border business transactions involving the U.S. and China. Prior to her arrival, she served as vice chair of Foley & Lardner LLP’s China Practice.

Ms. Ji brings to Nixon Peabody many years of experience advising U.S. and Chinese companies on a broad range of corporate and commercial matters. Born and raised in China, Ms. Ji completed her legal education in both China and the U.S. Having practiced a considerable time in the U.S., she has a deep understanding and knowledge of business transactions in the U.S. and China, and the legal and cultural differences between the two countries.

“Linda is a terrific addition to Nixon Peabody’s China practice and provides an additional bridge to connect our clients across two continents,” said Andrew I. Glincher, CEO and managing partner, Nixon Peabody LLP. “Having an attorney with Linda’s experience right here in our Boston office provides tremendous advantages to our U.S. clients who are considering business opportunities in China and to our Chinese clients who are pursuing business ventures in the U.S.”

Ms. Ji counsels U.S. companies investing and operating in China on deal structuring, choice of entities, joint ventures, wholly foreign-owned enterprises (WFOEs), strategic alliances, and regulatory filings, as well as manufacturing, distribution, and licensing arrangements in China. She also counsels Chinese companies doing business in the U.S. on entry strategies, corporate restructuring, financings, mergers and acquisitions, and securities offerings. Prior to entering private practice, Ms. Ji worked at the Department of Treaty and Law at the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) for the People’s Republic of China (PRC), reviewing large foreign investment projects in China and negotiating bilateral investment treaties.

“A seasoned practitioner, Linda understands the opportunities and challenges our clients face as they operate globally. Her practice and experience are an excellent fit with our China practice given Linda’s extensive work on both inbound and outbound transactions,” said David K. Cheng, partner and chair of Nixon Peabody’s China practice. “With Linda on the East Coast, and the attorneys of our China practice on the West Coast and in Asia, Nixon Peabody is strategically positioned to provide our global clients around-the-clock services in the same time zone, wherever they are located.”

Ms. Ji works with both privately and publicly held companies in a variety of corporate transactional and securities matters, including structuring, private equity and venture capital financings, mergers and acquisitions, private placement of securities, IPOs, and secondary public offerings of securities, as well as public company reporting and securities law compliance. Ms. Ji received both her J.D. and LLM, magna cum laude, from Saint Louis University and her LLB with high honors from the University of International Business and Economics School of Law in Beijing, China.

In Asia, Nixon Peabody has offices in Shanghai and Hong Kong. In addition, Nixon Peabody is associated in Hong Kong with local commercial law firm, CWL Partners, and is affiliated in the PRC with the Hylands Law Firm.
