Ropes & Gray Expands Life Sciences Group with Addition of Partner

Ropes & Gray is pleased to announce that Paul D. Rubin has joined the firm’s Life Sciences Group as a partner resident in the Washington, D.C. office.

Mr. Rubin represents clients regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Federal Trade Commission (FTC), Consumer Product Safety Commission (CSPC) and other regulatory agencies. He also conducts due diligence on corporate transactions and private equity investments. Prior to joining Ropes & Gray, Mr. Rubin was co-chair of the FDA Practice Group and head of the Transactional Risk Assessment Practice Group at Patton Boggs.

“Paul’s in-depth experience navigating regulatory issues and transactional risks provides great synergies with the firm’s Life Sciences Group and other practices in the firm,” said Greg Levine, co-chair of Ropes & Gray’s Life Sciences Group. “His addition expands our drug, device, and advertising law practices while concurrently enhancing our capabilities by adding deep knowledge of food, dietary supplement, and cosmetics regulation, as well as regulation of other consumer products. In a time of increased scrutiny on regulated entities, Paul’s experience will provide a valuable benefit for clients operating in a wide range of industries.”

Mr. Rubin dedicates a substantial portion of his practice to counseling clients on advertising and promotional-related issues, and representing clients before the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection and the National Advertising Division of the Better Business Bureau (NAD). Mr. Rubin has also represented numerous clients involved in Lanham Act disputes and under state investigation for alleged false advertising or Unfair and Deceptive Acts and Practices (UDAP) violations.

“Ropes & Gray provides a unique opportunity to combine my practice with one of the leading life sciences groups in the country,” said Mr. Rubin. “The firm’s global reputation for providing full service support spanning FDA, antitrust, litigation, intellectual property counseling, health law, advertising and social media, and government investigations – combined with its elite private equity practice – makes the Ropes & Gray platform incredibly appealing.”
