Neal Gerber Eisenberg Adds ‘Rising Star’ to Litigation Team

Neal Gerber Eisenberg announced today that Karl R. Barnickol has joined the firm as a partner in its 50-lawyer litigation group. Barnickol, 40, who is consistently labeled a “rising” and “future star” by nationwide legal directories, brings an extensive litigation practice to Neal Gerber Eisenberg that includes the defense of complex mass torts and class actions.

Barnickol has a dependable track record of success for clients in state and federal courts nationwide, both at the trial and appellate levels. A major subset of Karl’s practice involves the defense of negligence lawsuits against content providers and software developers involved in publishing industry-specific business data.

“As more and more people depend on highly specialized information and sophisticated analytical tools, content providers face mounting risks from lawsuits that challenge the accuracy, adequacy and comprehensiveness of their information products,” Barnickol said. “Clients in this space are best served by counsel who cater specifically to their rapidly evolving business segment.”

Barnickol’s practice is not limited in scope, however. His experience intersects with many other areas of business-related litigation. He also manages securities and corporate governance litigation, civil and criminal antitrust claims and consumer fraud actions.

“Not only does Karl’s practice enhance our already-existing slate of legal services, but it adds a new layer to our capabilities that is aligned with a sector that is experiencing tremendous growth,” said Scott J. Fisher, co-chair of the firm’s General & Commercial Litigation Practice Group. “This is exactly the type of talent we seek in making our practice and firm even more appealing and relevant to our industry-diverse client base.”

Aside from representation at the higher corporate level, Barnickol also defends individual officers and directors in complex civil litigation, such as shareholder suits and regulatory and criminal investigations, including claims of securities, price fixing and health care fraud.

From 2008 to 2010, Illinois Super Lawyers listed Barnickol as a Rising Star. He is also ranked in Benchmark Litigation as a Future Star and in the 2012-13 editions of The Best Lawyers of America.

While in law school at Washington University in St. Louis, he was a member of the Order of the Coif and the Washington University Law Review. He earned his J.D. in 1997 and his A.B. in 1994 from Georgetown University.
