Hogan Lovells announced today that Trey Hanbury, former Director of Government Affairs for Sprint Nextel, joined its Washington, D.C. office as a partner in the Technology, Media and Telecoms practice.
“Trey has an extensive wireless and spectrum policy background and has worked on a wide variety of competition and communications policy issues, including satellite and international telecom matters,” said Michele Farquhar, Practice Area Co-Leader of Hogan Lovells’ Communications group. “Trey’s experience will be of great value to our clients, and this addition will further strengthen and expand our market-leading global Wireless, Satellite, and International Telecom practices.”
During his tenure with Sprint Nextel, Hanbury served as regulatory counsel in major rulemaking proceedings, mergers and acquisitions, and cases, before the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the National Telecommunications and Information Administration of the Department of Commerce, the Departments of Justice and Homeland Security, Congress, and federal courts.
Earlier in his career, Hanbury held various policy-making positions at the FCC, including working on numerous satellite and international telecom matters in the International Bureau. He also served as Special Counsel in the Office of General Counsel, where he was responsible for providing policy and legal advice to the Office of Chairman on wireless and wireline issues such as broadband wireless allocations, unlicensed devices, hybrid satellite-terrestrial deployments, law-enforcement access to communications, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), local number portability, and spectrum relocation.

He received his B.A. in History with high distinction from the University of Virginia and his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law.
