McGuireWoods LLP announced today that D. French Slaughter has joined the firm’s Tax and Employee Benefits Department as a partner in the firm’s Washington, D.C., office.
Previously with Deloitte & Touche, Slaughter has years of experience in all forms of federal, state and local taxation, including income and franchise tax, sales and use tax, and property tax. He represents clients in the aerospace and defense, telecommunications and media industries.
Slaughter served as a partner at McGuireWoods from 1984 to 2000 after serving as a special assistant to Assistant Attorney General Glenn L. Archer Jr. at the U.S. Department of Justice Tax Division. He has represented clients in matters regarding tax litigation before the U.S. Tax Court, federal district courts across the nation, numerous circuits of the U.S. Court of Appeals, the Virginia Supreme Court, and several state trial courts.

For 12 years, Slaughter taught the “Taxation of Mergers and Acquisitions” course at the Darden Business School of the University of Virginia, his alma mater. He is a member of the American College of Tax Counsel and he serves as co-chair of the Virginia Tax Conference and on the advisory board of the Hartman State and Local Tax Forum in Nashville, Tenn.
