Shoosmiths has extended the scope of its pensions team with a partner hire in Manchester.
Paul Carney joins the national law firm to address growing client demand for pensions advice in the north west.
Shoosmiths advises occupational pension schemes and sponsoring employers, acting for more than 200 occupational schemes, ranging from £1m to £1 billion.
Carney, who joins from the Manchester office of Addleshaw Goddard, is described in the 2013 edition of legal directoryChambers as ‘a decent guy with a specialism in outsourcing PFI work’.
Advising trustee and corporate clients, he has provided support on several share and asset transfers, acted for trustees in the merger of two schemes, and advised a Government department and local authorities on public sector services outsourcing.

Shoosmiths’ specialist pensions lawyers advise clients on all aspects of pensions law, including Pensions Act 1995/2004 and other compliance issues, complaints to the Pensions Ombudsman, buy-outs and buy-ins, pensions litigation, liability reduction exercises, and sex discrimination issues.
The team is part of the firm’s 22-strong department advising on employment law and employee benefits.
