McDermott Expands Transactional Capability in London

International law firm McDermott Will & Emery LLP today announced the appointments of two leading corporate lawyers, Stuart Mathews and Rupert Weber, as partners in the Firm’s London office. Both partners bolster the Firm’s experience in handling transactional matters on an international scale.

Stuart Mathews specialises in cross-border corporate transactions, across Europe and other higher-growth emerging market countries. Stuart’s recent work is particularly centred on businesses in Africa. He regularly advises corporate clients in the sectors of mining (iron ore, gold, diamonds, and platinum, copper); oil & gas; clean technology (solar, wind, biogas, water treatment plant); manufacturing (media co-processor chips, crumbed rubber) and marine containers across the African continent.

Rupert Weber focuses his practice on both domestic and cross-border public and private mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, corporate finance and general company listings. Rupert’s recent work was focussed on African-related transactions, particularly in the diamond, other mining and FMCG sectors where he acts for family offices, entrepreneurs and private equity investors.

“We are delighted to welcome Stuart and Rupert to our Firm,” said Hugh Nineham, partner and head of McDermott’s London office and European Corporate Group. “Their arrival brings added critical mass to our cross-border M&A offering, particularly with respect to the African continent, given their strong reputation in this region.”

“It is a great pleasure to have Stuart and Rupert join our Firm,” said David Goldman, partner and head of McDermott’s Corporate Advisory Practice Group. “Much of their practice specialises in representing family offices and other family investing enterprises in their direct investing activities. This is a major area of interest for McDermott as it takes advantage of the intersections of our wealth management, international tax and cross-border M&A practices.”
