SNR Denton has advised the Ministry of Defence (MoD) on its £1.2bn contract with BAE Systems Marine (BAES) for the 4th in class of the Royal Navy’s Astute Class, nuclear-powered fleet submarines.
This agreement outlines a programme for completion of the contract through periodic ‘milestones’, handover, final testing and trials, acceptance and completion of the vessel.
SNR Denton’s Technology, Media and Telecoms department head, Catherine Bingham, who advised on the deal said: ‘This is the product of extensive negotiation and collaboration between the MoD and BAES. Our relationship with the MoD ensured we were in a position to help design a contract that is based on lessons learned from the parties’ previous work together and seeks to improve future working practices.’
Commenting on the deal, Tom O’Gorman, the MoD’s Submarines Commercial Head, said: ‘This is a hugely important agreement for the MoD, not only in the context of the maritime division, but for defence as a whole. It comes as a result of much hard work and commitment from everyone involved.’
Catherine led the core SNR Denton team with consultant Ian Hodgson, associate Nicola Harding and lawyer Katie Aitken-Quack. Energy and Infrastructure head Christopher McGee-Osborne advised on nuclear aspects of the deal.
