Norton Rose Grows Australian Banking Practice

International legal practice Norton Rose has today announced the appointments of Joanne Crew and Jake Howard as banking partners in Melbourne and Perth respectively.

Joanne’s practice focuses on project finance and major energy, renewables, infrastructure and PPP projects. She joins Norton Rose Australia from Herbert Smith Freehills.

Jake Howard joins the Perth office from Norton Rose’s London office where he has been promoted to the role of partner. Prior to that he was based in our Paris office and advised clients active throughout Francophone Africa.

Jake specialises in mining and commodities. He has particular experience advising on the financing of both brown and green field mining projects in emerging markets, particularly Africa and South America.

Both appointments will add strength to three of Norton Rose’s six key industry areas of Infrastructure Mining and Commodities, Energy and Financial Institutions, in addition to Transport, Technology and Innovation and Pharmaceuticals and Life Sciences.

Norton Rose in Australia Managing Partner, Wayne Spanner said,

“The appointments of Joanne and Jake again demonstrate the high calibre of people we are bringing to our clients in banking and finance. We have actively changed the structure and composition of our banking and finance team in the last year. We will continue to invest in the country’s top legal talent to ensure our clients are supported as they invest in the key sectors driving global growth.”

The appointments follow that of partner Nuncio D’Angelo who joined Norton Rose in August from King & Wood Mallesons to lead the banking practice in Australia.

Norton Rose continues to grow its banking practice. Joanne’s appointment represents the ninth banking partner to join the practice internationally since May 2012, in addition to the 11 banking lawyers (including Jake) promoted to partner during 2012 – 13.
