Sparke Helmore Welcomes Insolvency Partner

Sparke Helmore Lawyers is pleased to announce the appointment of Tim Castle as a partner in its Commercial & Projects Group in its Sydney office.

Tim practises in the areas of insolvency and restructuring, and commercial litigation. The 2012 Legal 500 Asia Pacific directory recommends Tim for his expertise in Restructuring and Insolvency.

“We’re excited that Tim has chosen to join our firm. Having new partners of Tim’s calibre join the firm will help us achieve our vision to be a world-class Australian law firm most admired by our clients for our people and performance,” said Jesse Webb, the firm’s National Managing Partner.

Tim has a strong background in insolvency and restructuring and is well-known by insolvency practitioners and lending institutions. His wide experience in general commercial litigation includes expertise in trade practices, contract, property and Corporations Act disputes. Tim also advises financial institutions, insolvency practitioners, creditors and directors on all aspects of corporate insolvency.

Richard Anicich, who leads the firm’s Commercial Litigation and Dispute Resolution team, said “Tim’s insolvency and restructuring and commercial litigation experience will build on the strengths of our existing team and I’m looking forward to working with him.”

Tim is also an experienced defamation lawyer, having acted on the defence of many defamation claims against major media organisations, although Tim’s practice in this area now focuses on plaintiffs.

Before joining Sparke Helmore, Tim was a partner at Gilbert + Tobin and had previously practised with Freehill Hollingdale & Page (now Herbert Smith Freehills).

The Commercial & Projects Group has also recently welcomed two new Special Counsel – Martin Taylor and Jennifer Anderson.

Martin Taylor joined the firm’s Construction, Projects & Infrastructure team in February 2013. He recently returned to Australia from London where he worked at an international firm on some of the largest construction projects undertaken across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Jennifer Anderson became part of the firm’s Mining & Resources team in January 2013. She gained her considerable expertise and experience in mining, property and commercial law through her commercial role and earlier in-house legal role at global resources companies, and in private practice at top tier firms in Australia and New York City.
