Alejandro Sotelo, an international business attorney licensed in Mexico, has joined the ScottHulse PC as an attorney and shareholder. Mr. Sotelo will lead the firm’s Mexico Law practice and play a key role in the development of the firm’s International Trade and Cross-Border Business practice group.
The hiring of Mr. Sotelo enables ScottHulse to provide its clients with single-source, dual representation in both the U.S. and Mexico. This strategic move positions ScottHulse as the region’s only truly international law firm, serving the El Paso, Northern Mexico and Southern New Mexico “borderplex”.
Mr. Sotelo assists multinational corporations as well as small and middle market companies and international investors with their businesses or investments in Mexico and other Latin American countries. He advises clients on matters related to corporate and securities, international trade and cross-border business, cross-border transactions including mergers and acquisitions, real estate, complex litigation, and tax law. His diverse industry experience includes manufacturing, real estate, urban development, engineering and construction, tourism, and banking and financial services, among others. He is a member of the Mexican National Association of Corporate Counsel (ANADE).
Mr. Sotelo has successfully represented national and multinational companies in complex litigation matters related to banking, corporate governance, shareholder disputes, real estate and construction disputes. His experience includes litigation issues involving conflicts of national and foreign jurisdictions, enforcement of foreign resolutions, and international judicial cooperation. As a result of his knowledge and experience, he has been appointed as an expert witness on cases related to such matters in the United States courts.
Mr. Sotelo received his Law Degree from Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, a civil law tradition institution in Mexico, and earned his Master of International Business Law degree from the McGill University Institute of Comparative Law in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Additionally, he holds a Post Graduate Diploma in International Tax Law from Robert Kennedy University in Zurich, Switzerland. He is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in International Commercial Law (LL.M.) from the University of California at Davis.
Mr. Sotelo has served as a professor of comparative law at the Universidad Autonoma de Juarez School of Law. Also, he was a professor at the Instituto Tecnologico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, Campus Ciudad Juarez, where he taught business law and international business law.
Born in Mexico and educated in Mexico and Canada, Mr. Sotelo now is now a citizen of the United Sates, residing in El Paso.
