Experienced intellectual property attorney and entrepreneur Mary C. Bonnema has joined Warner Norcross + Judd as a partner.
Bonnema brings more than 25 years of experience in intellectual property law with an emphasis on trademarks, trade dress, infringement, defense and IP litigation to Warner. She also has a background in human resources and employment law. She will practice in the firm’s Grand Rapids office.
Prior to joining Warner, Bonnema helped launch the boutique IP law firm McGarry Bair PC, which she led as president and shareholder. During her nearly two decades at McGarry Bair, she was responsible for overseeing the firm’s domestic and global portfolios of client trademarks. Under her leadership, McGarry Bair was repeatedly recognized by Intellectual Property Today as a top patent and trademark firm, as well as by U.S. News and World Report as a top-tier best law firm.
Bonnema also served as vice president of business relations for office furniture maker Herman Miller, Inc. in Zeeland and as a partner with Varnum LLP in Grand Rapids.
Bonnema serves as vice chair of the Calvin College Board of Trustees, where she also chairs two committees. She is a member of State Bar of Michigan.
She has been recognized by FORTUNE as one of America’s Most Honored Professionals, as a Top Rated Lawyer in Intellectual Property and as a Woman Leader in the Law. She has been recognized by the Grand Rapids Business Journalas one of the 50 Most Influential Women in West Michigan.
Bonnema holds a bachelor’s degree from Calvin College and her law degree magna cum laude from Wayne State University Law School.
A native of Grand Haven, Michigan, Bonnema now resides Grand Rapids, with her husband Jerry, and daughters Brooke and Bryn.
