Dykema Gossett PLLC announced today the addition of Frederick H. Hoops, III as a senior counsel in the firm’s Taxation and Estates Practice Group in the firm’s Grand Rapids, Michigan office. Hoops joins Dykema from Fifth Third Bank in Grand Rapids where he was the Vice President and Senior Wealth Planner in the Innovative Wealth Solutions Group. Previous to his work with Fifth Third Bank, Mr. Hoops was with the Clark Hill firm where he also practiced taxation and estate planning. Mr. Hoops is licensed to practice in Michigan and Florida.
Mr. Hoops practices in the areas of trust and estate planning; probate, trust, and estate litigation; and estate and gift taxation. His experience includes all aspects of estate planning, tax minimization, asset protection, family partnerships, limited liability companies, and the probate and non-probate administration of trusts, decedents’ estates, guardianships, and conservatorships.

Mr. Hoops is a member of the West Michigan Estate Planning Council, the Grand Rapids Bar Association, the Florida Bar, and the State Bar of Michigan and its Business Law, Probate and Estate Planning, Real Property Law and Taxation Sections. Hoops currently serves as liaison between the Probate and Estate Planning and Taxation Sections and he has been a member of the Taxation Section Council for the State Bar of Michigan and director/treasurer for the Planned Giving Roundtable of Southeast Michigan. Hoops has also taught advanced estate planning at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law and at the Thomas M. Cooley Law School. A coauthor of several books and articles, Mr. Hoops has been a featured presenter for Fifth Third Bank, as well as for the National Business Institute, ICLE, Family Business Alliance, and others.
In addition to his law degree from the University of Miami in 1993, Mr. Hoops also holds an LL.M. in estate planning from the University of Miami.
