John P. Malloy has joined LeClairRyan as a shareholder on the firm’s Insurance and Reinsurance Litigation and Business Litigation Teams. He will be resident in the national law firm’s Hartford office.
Malloy represents and counsels insurers and reinsurers in first- and third-party coverage matters nationwide. He has litigated on behalf of primary and excess carriers in a variety of coverage matters, including construction defect liability, toxic tort liability, environmental liability, employee fidelity, and property coverage cases. In addition, Malloy has extensive experience litigating coverage actions in the context of an insured’s bankruptcy in courts throughout the country.
An experienced litigator, Malloy has held a primary or lead role in several notable insurance coverage matters, including the defense of insurers against allegations of mishandling of claims following Superstorm Sandy and first- and third-party litigation arising from Hurricane Katrina and the terrorist attacks of 9/11.
Malloy frequently presents at meetings of the Insurance Coverage Litigation Section of the American Bar Association, Property & Liability Resource Bureau (PLRB), and other groups. Most recently, he presented at PLRB’s regional conferences on coverage issues involving cyber-security and cyber-risks.
A graduate of Brooklyn Law (J.D.) and Williams College (B.A.), Malloy is a member of the American Bar Association, Connecticut Bar Association and AIDA Reinsurance and Insurance Arbitration Society. He is admitted in Connecticut and New Jersey.
