Global law firm White & Case LLP announced today that Julian Chung has joined the Firm as a partner in its Hong Kong office.
With extensive experience in Greater China, Mr. Chung has spent 26 years advising on public M&A and equity capital markets transactions. His work covers both state and privately owned companies in China and other parts of Asia, as well as the listings of international companies in Hong Kong. He also brings experience in the mining and commodities sectors.
Mr. Chung has advised on a number of major transactions including Vale S.A.’s listing of its common shares and class A preferred shares in the form of depositary receipts on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. He also recently advised on the reverse takeover of China Daye Non-Ferrous Metals Mining Limited through the injection of copper assets having a total value of approximately US$900 million.
“Julian is an ideal addition to our Firm and our practice in China. His track record in equities is a perfect complement to our debt finance practice, and will be of great additional value to our clients,” said John Hartley, executive partner of White & Case’s Hong Kong office, and head of the Firm’s Banking, Capital Markets & Restructuring practice in Asia.
Barrye Wall, head of Asia for White & Case and White & Case’s Corporate and M&A practice, added: “Julian’s broad corporate background and years of experience in the China M&A market, for both state-owned and privately owned companies, further strengthens our China M&A focus.”
The addition of Mr. Chung to White & Case in Hong Kong follows the transfer of English-qualified Corporate and M&A partner Anthony Vasey from White & Case’s London office, and the arrival of mining expert John Tivey from Freehills, both in 2012.
“White & Case is a strong platform for my practice and for providing full-service support to my clients, ranging from corporate and securities, to debt finance and projects, insolvency and restructuring, and disputes. The Firm’s sector expertise, especially in mining and oil & gas, offers great opportunities for collaboration,” said Mr. Chung.
