Linklaters today announces that leading restructuring & insolvency lawyer David Kidd has been elected as a partner to lead its pan-Asian Restructuring & Insolvency practice. David Kidd will join in October and will be based in Hong Kong.
David is widely recognised as one of the top R&I lawyers in Asia. He has been operating in Asia since 1998 and over that time has established himself as one of the leading practitioners in the region.
David Kidd’s hire adds his considerable R&I expertise to the firm’s existing top-tier contentious insolvency, corporate and finance practices. David will join the finance group in Hong Kong but will work closely with Melvin Sng and the finance and corporate groups across Asia to further develop the firm’s regional R&I practice. His appointment is as a direct result of client demand and the increasing requests from the firm’s existing clients for additional specialist R&I expertise in the region.
The firm has had the key roles in Hong Kong on the insolvencies of Lehman Brothers and MF Global, with Melvin Sng leading those transactions in Asia. David brings a depth and breadth of restructuring expertise that will strengthen further the firm’s offering to its clients.
Tony Bugg, head of Linklaters’ global restructuring & insolvency practice, said:
“David Kidd is an outstanding R&I lawyer. He has developed a reputation as a highly-valued adviser who has the intellectual, business and personal skills to lead, build consensus and develop a winning strategy for his clients. We look forward to working with David to continue expanding our R&I practice across Asia.”
Stuart Salt, Linklaters’ Regional Managing Partner for Asia, said:
“The R&I practice is an extremely important part of the firm’s business, enabling us to service clients at each stage of the economic cycle, and we already have a terrific platform in the region having advised on major insolvency events such as Lehman and MF Global. David is one of the leading R&I lawyers in the region and we are excited about further developing this side of our business with him.”
Linklaters’ investment strategy is based on clients’ needs and market opportunity. David Kidd is the latest of a number of high-profile partners to join Linklaters in recent months, including Bertrand Sénéchal (capital markets, Paris), Martyn Hopper and Nikunj Kiri (financial regulation, London), Wilhelm Haarmann (corporate, Frankfurt), Clara Ingen-Housz (anti-trust, Hong Kong), Jasper Howard and David Brockway (tax, Washington D.C.), Simon Pritchard (anti-trust, London) and William Kirschner (corporate, Singapore).
