An international law firm with interests in Asia has hired a new partner for a Hong Kong legal job, according to a published report.
Christopher Betts will join the Hong Kong office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom next month, according to The Asian Lawyer. Qualified in Australia, Betts began practicing law in Hong Kong in 2000. Though he is not yet admitted, an Asia practice head with the firm said he will be admitted some time during the month of April.
Three corporate partners with Skadden left the Hong Kong office in August of last year, and the attorney recruitment of Betts is viewed as one measure of countering those departures, the publication reports.
Betts’ specialties include advisory for capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, as well as offering tips regarding general corporate matters.
The three attorneys who left Skadden joined five other attorneys who left their firms to join Kirkland & Ellis, according to The Asian Lawyer.
Skadden’s Hong Kong offices are the headquarters of the firm’s Asia-Pacific international arbitration and litigation practice, according to the law firm’s website.
