Proskauer – RRJ Capital to Invest $300 Million in Cheniere Energy Partners

Global law firm Proskauer advised Asian private-equity fund RRJ Capital Ltd. in its agreement to invest $300 million in Cheniere Energy Partners, LP.

A publicly traded partnership that is majority-owned by Houston-based natural gas producer Cheniere Energy, Inc., Cheniere Energy Partners owns and operates the Sabine Pass natural gas receiving terminal on the U.S. Gulf Coast in Cameron Parish, LA. The deal follows a $468 million joint investment in Cheniere Energy, Inc., by RRJ Capital and Singapore state investment company Temasek in 2012.

RRJ Capital is an established client of Proskauer. Prior to the Cheniere deal, the firm advised the fund in its investment in Chinese biotech company Triplex Biosciences Co. and in AAB International Holdings Ltd., a private Chinese diaper maker.

RRJ Capital was founded in March 2011. Based in Hong Kong and Singapore, the fund invests in key growth sectors such as energy, natural resources, financial institutions, consumer and healthcare. It raised $2.3 billion for its first fund and is in the final stages of raising $3.5 billion for its second fund, making it the second-largest Asia Pacific-based equity fund ever raised.

The Proskauer team was led by Corporate Partners Yuval Tal, head of the firm’s Hong Kong office; Jay C. S. Tai, also from the Hong Kong office, and Frank Zarb and Stuart Bressman, based in the firm’s Washington, DC, and New York offices, respectively.
