Tess joins from White & Case in Hong Kong and has over 14 years of experience advising on cross border transactions, including mergers and acquisitions and divestures, private equity transactions and joint ventures across numerous sectors in China. Our clients will benefit hugely from Tess’s deep on-the-ground experience having worked in Shanghai, New York and Hong Kong and her understanding of local business environments and cultures.
Tess’s hire follows the recent announcement of our Joint Operation with Shanghai Lang Yue Law Firm. Allen & Overy Lang Yue (FTZ) Joint Operation Office will provide clients with seamless PRC and international legal services.
Head of the Hong Kong corporate practice, Will McAuliffe commented: “This on-going expansion of A&O’s corporate practice in China through Tess’s arrival aims to offer our clients a greater depth of resources, particularly more native Chinese language capability. The A&O corporate team is in a strong position to capitalise on China’s economic growth for the benefit of both our Chinese and international clients.”
Beijing and Shanghai managing partner, Victor Ho added: “Tess’s hire is part of our continued investment in growing our China related business. She brings added diversity to our corporate offering with her ability to act on Hong Kong and U.S. law matters, onshore PRC transactions as well as work with the full range of clients, whether they be Chinese sponsors in their U.S. and international transactions or global clients in relation to their China transactions”.
Over the last 12 months, Allen & Overy has announced a series of China-related senior appointments. This has included the appointment of Eugene Chen in our Litigation & Investigations Group, David Lam as Head of the China Desk (Australia) and Ian Chapman in the Restructuring practice.
