Davis Polk today announced that Patrick Sinclair will join the firm as a partner in the Litigation Department. He will be based in Hong Kong and will focus on white collar criminal defense matters and government and internal investigations.
The addition of Mr. Sinclair further extends the depth of Davis Polk’s distinguished practice in Asia and reflects the firm’s continued commitment to the region. He joins leading Hong Kong litigators Martin Rogers and James Wadham, who launched Davis Polk’s enforcement capability in Asia in 2013 and have expanded the practice significantly on the back of continuing growth in Asia-centered enforcement and investigations matters.
Mr. Sinclair has more than a decade of experience representing U.S. and international corporations, audit committees, banks, individuals and government entities in corporate criminal investigations. He comes to Davis Polk from Ropes & Gray, where he was a partner in the government enforcement group in Hong Kong. He has handled a range of matters, including with respect to the FCPA, export controls and sanctions, anti-money laundering, whistleblowers and market manipulation. Mr. Sinclair regularly leads internal investigations for multinational corporations in Asia, and has represented a number of individuals who have been the subject of inquiries from U.S. Attorney’s Offices, the SEC, CFTC and other U.S. regulators.
From 2007 to 2014, Mr. Sinclair was a prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York. He was appointed Deputy Chief of the General Crimes Section in 2013. In recognition of his achievements at the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Mr. Sinclair received the U.S. Attorney’s Excellence in Criminal Litigation Award, as well as commendations from the SEC, FBI and U.S. Treasury.
“In today’s increasingly global regulatory and enforcement environment, having a full-service litigation practice in Asia – with U.S., U.K. and Hong Kong law capabilities – is strategically important to our clients,” said Thomas J. Reid, Davis Polk’s Managing Partner. “Our balance of practice in Asia offering both corporate and litigation advice under U.S. and Hong Kong law drives substantial synergies. We will continue to develop our position as a uniquely elite international firm in the region with leading practices in capital markets, M&A and litigation.”
“Patrick is a highly skilled and well-regarded litigator who brings significant U.S. enforcement and investigations experience to the firm,” said Davis Polk litigation partner Martin Rogers. “We are delighted to welcome him. He will significantly help us extend our lead amongst the U.S. firms in having very strong combined U.S., English and local litigation practices here in Hong Kong.”
Patrick Sinclair said, “Davis Polk is among the finest law firms in the world, known for excellence across the board. I have long admired the firm’s litigators, both in the U.S. and Hong Kong, and am excited for the opportunity to help grow the global enforcement practice.”
