Baker Botts L.L.P., a leading international energy, technology and life sciences law firm, announced today that Brad Honeycutt has joined its Houston office as a partner in the Corporate Department. His arrival bolsters the firm’s standing as a leader in both the energy industry and private equity sector. He joins Baker Botts from Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP in Houston.
Honeycutt’s practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions and complex energy transactions, including representing private equity sponsors and management teams in acquisitions and divestitures of upstream and midstream oil and gas assets, alternative oil and gas financings and joint venture transactions. He regularly advises both investors and operators in drilling partnerships and other joint development-related arrangements.
Previously, Honeycutt was the Senior Vice President and General Counsel of a large oil and gas private equity portfolio company, where he was a founding member of the management team responsible for sourcing and executing oil and gas transactions in addition to serving as the lead in-house legal counsel. He started his legal career as a corporate lawyer at Vinson & Elkins in Houston.
“Brad will add even more scale to our energy transactional practices,” said Baker Botts Managing Partner John Martin. “Given his extensive relationships with strategics and sponsors in the oil and gas industry, he will also play an important role in further expanding our Private Equity practice.”
“We are thrilled to welcome Brad to our firm. His strong energy private equity expertise as well as his entrepreneurial background and market recognition will be great assets for us,” said Mike Bengtson, Chair of Baker Botts’ Corporate Department.
“I am excited to join Baker Botts and help strengthen its position as one of the premier energy firms, both domestically and globally. Baker Botts’ long-standing commitment to clients in the oil and gas industry and across the entire energy value chain, provide ideal conditions to grow my practice and better serve clients,” said Honeycutt. “I look forward to collaborating with my new colleagues to advise our clients on their critical legal matters.”
