The global law firm Dentons today named Houston Bar Association (HBA) president Laura Gibson as partner in the Firm’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice. In this role she will head up the Houston Labor and Employment practice and work with clients involved in complex commercial disputes as well as arbitration pertaining to banking, energy, securities, copyright and communications law.
A prominent member of the Texas legal community, Gibson was most recently a name partner with a Houston-based law firm. She is board certified in Labor and Employment Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and has extensive trial and appellate experience, including arbitrations before the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD), the Financial Industry Regulating Authority (FINRA) and the American Arbitration Association.

Gibson has served on the Advertising Review Committee for the State Bar of Texas for six years, including as chair for three years, and is a former member of the Board of Directors for the State Bar Executive Committee, the Board of The Texas Bar Journal and chair of the Administrative Committee. She has served on the HBA Board of Directors for more than a decade, and been a member of the organization’s Executive Committee since 2010. Gibson has chaired or co-chaired eight HBA Committees, and is former chair of the Labor & Employment Section.

Gibson has received numerous honors for her commitment to the Texas legal community including the HBA’s prestigious President’s Award (2010-11 and 2012-13), and the 2014 Outside Counsel Trailblazer Award from the Texas Minority Counsel Program. She was selected as one of ten “Women on the Move” in 2012 by Texas Executive Women.
A tireless volunteer, Gibson is on the Board of Directors of the Houston Law Center Alumni Association, the Harris County Drug Court Foundation and the Greater Houston Women’s Chamber of Commerce. She was previously an adjunct professor of trial advocacy for the University of Houston Law Center, and an instructor for National Institute for Trial Advocacy at a national session, the Southern Regional Trial Advocacy Program at Southern Methodist University School of Law, and the University of Houston Deposition Program.
Gibson earned her JD from the University of Houston Law Center and her BS from Texas A&M University.
