Chaffe McCall is pleased to welcome former United States Attorney for the Southern District of Texas, Donald J. DeGabrielle, to the firm’s Houston office who will serve as a partner in the firm’s Government Investigations and White Collar Criminal Defense practice.
DeGabrielle, a 35-year veteran of legal services, is a highly experienced attorney with a notable career in federal law enforcement, including service as a Special Agent with the FBI, an Assistant District Attorney, an Assistant U.S. Attorney, and U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Texas. He has prosecuted matters involving public corruption, white-collar and environmental crimes, bank fraud, and general criminal and narcotics offenses. In private practice, he has defended a wide range of white collar criminal matters including violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and has advised numerous corporate clients on corporate compliance.
“I’m looking forward to contributing to Chaffe McCall’s Government Investigations and White Collar Criminal Defense practice in the Texas area,” said DeGabrielle. “The firm’s continued growth in the Houston market and focus in this area are what attracted me to the firm.”
In March 2006, DeGabrielle was appointed by President George W. Bush and sworn in as the leading federal prosecutor for the Southern District of Texas. During his time with the U.S. Attorney’s Office, DeGabrielle headed the Criminal Division and held an assignment with the Public Integrity Unit. He spent a year as the Resident Legal Advisor to the South African National Directorate of Public Prosecutions, where he served as a consultant and advisor for rule of law and criminal justice development. In addition to his tenure as the U.S. Attorney, DeGabrielle has served as an Assistant District Attorney in New Orleans, where he prosecuted more than 150 jury trials. He is also a former FBI Special Agent in New York and New Orleans.
The addition of DeGabrielle to the firm expands Chaffe McCall’s Houston office, which was established in 2005. He is the first attorney in Texas to join the firm’s Government Investigations and White collar Criminal Defense practice group. At Chaffe McCall’s Texas office, DeGabrielle will work with several seasoned attorneys including litigation partner, Hal Watson, incoming president of the Maritime Lawyers Association, who is also ranked as a “go to” attorney by Texas Lawyer.
“Don DeGabrielle’s depth of experience will be a great addition. We’re very excited to welcome him to our Houston office, and we value his impressive career achievements,” said John Olinde, Managing partner. “DeGabrielle will add tremendous depth to our Firm’s Government Investigations and White Collar Criminal Defense practice for the benefit of the clients we represent in a variety of industries.”
DeGabrielle earned his law degree from Louisiana State University Law Center in 1978 and his B.A. degree from McNeese State University in 1975.
