Mayer Brown announced today that Greg Matlock has joined the firm as a partner in its Tax Transactions & Consulting practice in Houston, where he will serve as a global co-leader of the Tax-Energy group. Mr. Matlock joins from EY, where he served as the company’s Americas Energy and Resources Tax Leader.
“As a highly regarded tax-focused energy leader, Greg brings substantial experience and credibility for market-leading tax advice in the energy and renewable resources sector,” said Alex Chequer, the global leader of the Oil & Gas group at Mayer Brown. “Greg’s experience in oil and gas and mining-related transactional work will have a considerable impact on growing the tax and greater energy practice for the firm in Houston, as well as serving our clients in their global transactions and operations.”
Mr. Matlock has extensive experience in US federal income tax planning and structuring for transactions involving partnerships and corporations, with particular emphasis on energy-related investments. He regularly leads tax efforts related to investments and transactions throughout the energy spectrum, including oil and gas, mining and metals, power and utilities, and renewable energy. Mr. Matlock has deep knowledge of both private and public energy-related transactions, including various capital market transactions (including IPO, Up-C, MLP, SPAC and REIT transactions) throughout the Americas and globally. He represents domestic and international energy companies, private equity funds, strategic investors, and various other stakeholders.
“Mayer Brown has an impeccable reputation in the legal community; however, what I find incredibly appealing and interesting is the opportunity to make an impact in growing Mayer Brown’s Houston tax and transactional practice, and differentiating the firm in the broader energy market,” said Mr. Matlock.
“Greg is a vital addition to the energy team that we welcomed this year in Houston, which has included Larry Murphy, Phil Lau, Dale Smith and Carl von Merz,” said Neil Wasserstrom, the managing partner of Mayer Brown’s Houston office. “We believe Greg’s experience will play a pivotal role in leading the expansion of our energy transactional services and enhance our brand in the Houston tax market, as we endeavor to grow our tax planning practice.”
