Mayer Brown announced today that oil and gas lawyer Vera de Gyarfas has joined the firm as a partner in its Corporate & Securities practice in Houston. Previously, Ms. Gyarfas was a partner at King & Spalding.
“Vera’s arrival is the latest step in our firmwide plan to invest in strategic areas that strengthen our specialized industry capabilities, particularly in the oil and gas sector, and expand our geographic footprint, ” said Alex Chequer, leader of the Oil & Gas group at Mayer Brown. “We are fortunate to bring Vera on, particularly given her extensive experience involving energy projects in Latin America and Africa, including representing oil and gas companies in upstream projects, liquefied natural gas (LNG), the development of energy infrastructure and M&A. This experience, combined with her reputation, will enhance our ability to serve clients across a broad geographic region.”
Ms. Gyarfas represents companies in upstream exploration and production, LNG and other natural gas projects under all types of host government agreements, including production sharing agreements, concessions/licenses and operating services agreements. She also advises companies with respect to power projects, generation, transmission and distribution facilities, and counsels petrochemical companies in developing specialized plants. With particular experience in LNG, Ms. Gyarfas represents clients in LNG export and import projects. She drafts and negotiates investment agreements and agreements for LNG sales and purchases, gas supply, and terminal usage, among others.
“My goal is to further enhance my oil and gas practice, specifically in upstream, midstream, and LNG projects in Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Angola and Mozambique, which are all very active markets for energy infrastructure,“ said Ms. Gyarfas. “Mayer Brown’s international platform will enable this growth.
